For Veterinarians

Oxygen Flow Rate

Each Pawprint Oxygen Canister provides 10 liters of Oxygen USP which will provide 5-20 minutes of therapy depending on the flow rate of the Regulator.

Your veterinarian is responsible for determining the oxygen flow rate based on the animal’s weight and the oxygen delivery method (i.e. nasal cannula, hood, face mask). Guidelines based on animal weight are provided on the Oxygen Canister.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a prescription for Pawprint Oxygen?

Yes, we require a prescription for any oxygen source, which includes Pawprint Oxygen Canisters and Oxygen Concentrators.

Prescriptions can be emailed to or faxed to 855-699-3366. You can download our RX Form and send it to your veterinarian, giving them everything they need to send us a prescription.

We require a prescription to ensure that your pet is getting the best care possible. If your veterinarian does not currently offer Pawprint Oxygen, we are happy to contact them and discuss the benefits of adding it to their clinic.

How long will a canister of Pawprint Oxygen last?

This will depend on the size of the animal. Please consult our Flow Rate Guidelines to see how animal weight and oxygen flow rate will determine your pet’s oxygen usage.

Veterinarians are responsible for determining the appropriate flow rate on the prescription. Dosage Guidelines are also printed on the Oxygen Canister.

Do I have to use the entire Oxygen Canister at once?

No, you can stop the flow of oxygen at any time by twisting the Regulator counter-clockwise and removing it from the Oxygen Canister. You can then use the remainder of the oxygen at a later date.

Are there any safety concerns regarding this product?

For transportation purposes, Pawprint Oxygen Canisters should be treated like any other aerosol-style product (hair-spray, disinfectant, etc). Avoid puncturing, sharp impacts, and placing Pawprint Oxygen Canisters near temperatures exceeding 120 ºF. Keep canisters away from open flames. Although oxygen is not flammable, it is an accelerant, meaning that it can intensify existing flames.

Pawprint Oxygen Canisters comply with all necessary Department of Transportation regulations. This ensures that they are safe to use during transport.
