The Why

When are pets using an oxygen chamber?

It usually starts at night. The breathing gets faster, the cough won't quit, and there's nothing in the house that helps. Here's why: room air is only 21% oxygen, and when disease narrows an airway or fills the lungs with fluid, less of that oxygen makes it into the blood — so your pet breathes harder and harder to make up the difference, exhausting the heart in the process. An oxygen chamber breaks that cycle by surrounding them in the exact oxygen concentration your veterinarian prescribes, so each breath delivers more and costs less. What you see is a pet who stops struggling and finally settles. What you get is the ability to give real care at home, in the moment it's needed, instead of waiting for morning.

Congestive heart failure (CHF)

Pneumonia (including aspiration pneumonia)

Brachycephalic obstructive airway syndrome (BOAS)

Frequently asked questions

Please view our full FAQ section with more questions and answers, give us a call or chat with a Pawprint representative if you have additional questions.

No the chamber itself does not require a prescription, but the oxygen source (either a 5 or 10L oxygen concentrator depending on the size selected) does require an RX because it is medical-grade. It is highly recommended that you use a medical-grade oxygen concentrator with a chamber.

You can download the RX form here

We recommend measuring your pet and comparing their measurements to the dimensions of each pet oxygen chamber size. Your pet should be able to fit comfortably in the chamber both when standing up and when laying down. When in doubt, size up!

Chamber dimensions:

Medium
: 25″ x 18″ x 20″

Large: 44" x 26" x 26"

The PureVent Oxygen Chamber comes with multi-colored fittings (the venturi kit) that allow you to select the oxygen saturation level that is recommended by your veterinarian. These fittings are called Venturi Adaptors, and they set the saturation level of oxygen by mixing room air with the oxygen supply from the Oxygen Concentrator.

The Venturi kit multiplies the total airflow to the system, which is critical to displacing heat, humidity, and the toxic carbon dioxide that your pet is exhaling in the oxygen cage.

The available oxygen settings are: 25%, 28%, 35%, 40%, 50%, and 60%. The most commonly used setting is the 40% Venturi, but you should ask your veterinarian about the best oxygen saturation level for your pet.

In order to achieve safe levels of oxygen, carbon dioxide, heat, and humidity inside the PureVent Oxygen Chamber, you need to supply it with a continuous flow, medical-grade Oxygen Concentrator. Your Oxygen Concentrator needs to be able to produce >90% oxygen at flow rates from 5 to 10 liters per minute.

The Medium PureVent Oxygen Chamber requires a flow rate of at least 5 liters per minute.

The Large PureVent Oxygen Chamber requires a flow rate of at least 10 liters per minute.

Please note that the chamber itself does not produce or contain oxygen and it is imperative that you have a safe oxygen source to use with this item.

Each oxygen chamber purchase includes the full Venturi System, 7 feet of oxygen tubing, comfort mat and a carrying case to store your cage when folded up.

This is very normal! Even at the highest flow, there will not be a strong blast of air entering the chamber. You should feel the oxygen flowing inside the port, but this should be gentle and free of noise.

Veterinary-grade oxygen therapy chamber praised for exceptional build quality and ease of use. Customers said it provides "peace of mind" and is "life-saving" for pets with respiratory conditions. Setup takes minutes. Pets often calm down and some enter voluntarily. Helps avoid costly ER visits. Concerns: chamber warms up after 10 minutes; lacks oxygen level indicator.

It’s great for its purpose, however…

It’s great for its purpose, however it gets very hot inside with no temperature control so I can’t keep my pup in for long.

Hi there, thank you for your feedback. We're glad the product serves its purpose, and we appreciate your note about the heat. If you haven't tried this already, you can use ice packs in the chamber to help keep your pup cool. Just make sure you put them under a towel or a blanket so they don't directly touch your pet's skin. Another tip is to ensure the concentrator isn't right next to the chamber, as it can become warm if used for a long therapy session. Push the concentator at least 6 feet away from the chamber. If you have any questions or would like some more tips, feel free to reach out!

Peace of mine for a 4 week old kitten, convenient, and saving money.

The vet had this sweet kitten in the oxgen chamber at the vet then transfered to after care was more expensive. I was told she can come home if your near oxgen for her.
To have her back home with me and to save money this was the only option for peace of mind.
She doesnt always need it but when her breaths per minute get over 50 she gets oxgen chamber and when she relaxes to sleep to get a count of 40 breaths per minute then she can slowly return to running around being a kitten until she is old enough for more testing. This gives her the chance if she needs the extra support.

Thank you for sharing your experience and such great photos of your sweet little girl! We know how tough these times can be, especially for such a young kitten and we're glad to know our equipment could help to bring her back to the comfort of her own home. We wish her a speedy recovery!

Looks pretty handy

1st of all, SHE is comfortable in it.
The chamber is easy to assemble / disassemble and is designed for for portability.
Concentrator is easy to use and reasonably portable (a little heavy and a bit large, but by necessity).

Lifesaver…literally

My little guy has asthma and came down with a terrible upper respiratory infection. The cost of his continued hospitalization was overwhelming. This unit allowed us to bring him home and continue his treatment with the added benefit of being with his family. The cost savings was monumental. Easy to assemble and the oxygen condenser is top notch. I am ever so grateful to have this for my little Ossie.

Huge relief

It has been a massive relief to have the chamber and concentrator in our house. It bought us time to get a diagnosis and minimized suffering while figuring out what we could do for our senior cat. I was able to get the concentrator and chamber covered by her insurance with the help of their sales agents. They shipped super quickly. We had already gone to the ER multiple times as she was experiencing daily respiratory distress for the past month. Being able to do oxygen treatments at home was less expensive and less stressful for the cat. Surprisingly, the she also loves it and requests to be let in every once in a while.

She was eventually diagnosed with laryngeal paralysis and a benign mediastinal mass. She’s started showing improvement after surgical intervention for laryngeal paralysis and we’ve decreased the amount of time she’s spending in what we now affectionately call “the bubble.” Eventually, we hope she graduates from it. But, we’re very thankful it’s there for her when she struggles.

Hi Alexandra, and thank you for your lovely review! It's so nice to hear this brings relief to your kitty and peace of mind to you. Dealing with a diagnosis like laryngeal paralysis can be very stressful, since the episodes can pop up with little to no warning, but it sounds like you have everything under control! Thank you for the video of your set-up. We're very happy we can help to give you and your kitty some comfort.

Really helps - glad we have this oxygen chamber

Our 16 lb Shih Tzu has pulmonary fibrosis.

About a month ago we got the oxygen chamber, and started introducing our dog to it with treats. After he experienced the oxygen, he seems to like it. While inside he settles down and relaxes. One time he even walked into it to sit while it was open.

After an oxygen session, he looks brighter, and more alert.

Earlier this week, on Memorial Day, some new breathing troubles developed, and luckily we had the chamber ready to go, and it really helped him stabilize. It was here when we needed it. Our vet prescribed a diuretic for this new condition, and our dog recovered nicely, but the oxygen chamber was very helpful support during this crisis time.

We're developing a routine where at certain times of the day, it's helpful for him to have brief oxygen sessions. We feel relieved that we have this machine at home.

Hi Rick, and thank you for this wonderful review (and for the absolutely adorable photos!) We're so glad the oxygen chamber has become a place of comfort for your pup and that it was able to help you in a time of crisis over the holiday. Pulmonary fibrosis can be a difficult condition to treat, but having the oxygen concentrator and chamber is a great way to ensure he has the oxygen therapy he needs in the comfort of your home.

A key piece of equipment for dogs who don’t like masks

This chamber is as extremely well built as it is intuitive. It comes in a carrying bag and setup is as easy as removing it from the bag, pulling it up by the handles, folding the doors up and sliding them over the end frame, and snapping the doors in place. The ventilation is great in a cold room, and does a great job of letting out the harmful gases that can build up. The build quality is absolutely top notch, and I feel that it will last the entire lifetime of our oxygen condenser. I would definitely recommend a 10L condenser for this chamber.

Despite loving this thing, and it fully deserving 5 stars, I have a few feature requests:
1. The chamber gets quite warm after 10 minutes, in a 74-76 degree room. We ended up remediating this by placing ice packs under a dog bed and running the oxygen hose through ice water (similar to the way refrigerator water dispensers chill water) before running into the chamber, to help even the temp out.
2. I wish there was a way to retain the zipper door in an open or partially-open state. I imagine a snap/latch on the door that can click into the other end, attached to the roof of the chamber. The bit attached to the roof could have an adjustable length, so users would have the option to leave the door partially or completely open to increase airflow or allow the dog to enter the chamber on their own, when they’re requesting treatment.

Dakota has adjusted to the chamber and uses it as needed.
It would be helpful to know the O2 concentration in the chamber at any given time. I am quite pleased and happy to have the O2 chamber for her. It offers a since of security to have the chamber with her medical condition.

Hi Anthony,

Thank you so much for letting us be a part of Dakota's journey and we're so glad to hear that the equipment has been such a help to her health condition as well as your peace of mind. That's exactly what we strive for and we're grateful to provide relief to you both. While our company has performed extensive in-house testing to ensure you're achieving the correct oxygen levels based on the selected venturi, it's always helpful to know where we can improve as we continue to grow as a business. Thank you for your feedback and we wish you the best!

Max chose the chamber on his own!

I purchased the Medium PureVent Pet Oxygen Chamber for my 20 lb Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Maxwell Smart, after he was diagnosed with MVD and CHF, causing fluid buildup, coughing, and labored breathing. While waiting for our oxygen concentrator, I kept the chamber nearby—and Max would snuggle next to it. Then he woke me two nights in a row, persistent and restless. When I placed the chamber on the floor with his blanket, he climbed right in, laid down, and went back to sleep — and his labored breathing and coughing ceased almost immediately. He’s repeated this for three nights as I fine-tuned his oxygen flow per recommendations. Max and I are truly happy with this unit—it gave us an at-home option when clinic oxygen therapy costs weren’t feasible. Thank you for making such a fantastic product.

Thank you

I recently ordered the full bundle it arrived very fast. I have already used the full concentrator on my 5 lb 13 yr old dog for breathing. So far I just used the mask with it just because the chamber is so medical I wanted to make sure I was doing things okay luckily they have a number to call also. Today at the vet someone found out how much this has already helped us and the office wanted into on this business for their clients which I happily shared. This is life saving and like I told the nurse get the bundle because that travel pack is just as important as the concentrator. The concentrator works right away my dog actually calms down in it and leans her little face toward it like she knows it helps her. Thank you!

A Life Saver

First I want to acknowledge the outstanding customer service by Pawprint, especially Sierra, who went out of her way to make sure my service animal received the necessary equipment she needed when the ER hospital made an error. The quality of the chamber and oxygenator are excellent and are helping to improve my precious service animal's condition and are a necessary step in her recovery. The product is high quality, durable, has no plastic odor, etc. , and lastly I am grateful for the ability to receive the products overnight.

This device has helped my cat. She only has 1 function lung and the other is less than 50%. This machine has helped her to be herself again. I can’t be happier.

Hi Gina, and thank you for your fantastic review! Dealing with respiratory distress can be awful, but I am so glad the concentrator and chamber were able to help her feel more comfortable and gave you some peace of mind.

Incredible Upgrade from the Buster!!

Every grievance I had about the Buster ICU cage was fixed with this design - love the built-in vents because my dog no longer tries to sneak out the opening of the zippers. Took me about 2 minutes to set up and it couldn't be easier.

Hi Carol, and thank you so much for your fantastic review! We're very glad you were satisfied with the PureVent oxygen chamber set up and usage!

P
Parker

For a brachycephalic puppy (Shih Tzu) would you suggest getting a cat appropriate mask because it is more shallow, or stick with the dog mask?

Pawprint Oxygen

HI Parker, thanks for reaching out! I would recommend going with the small mask for your Shih Tzu puppy, since Shih Tzus' muzzles are on the shorter side. However, if you'd like to measure your puppy's muzzle to ensure the best fit, I've included the dimensions for the small and medium masks here: small: 2.7" deep, 3" wide, medium: 3.7" deep, 3" wide.

How long to ship the ptoduct

Pawprint Oxygen

Hi Nancy, and thank you for reaching out! Shipping times vary depending on your location. Generally, UPS Ground takes 1-5 business days to arrive. For the oxygen concentrators and chambers, you can select UPS Next Day Air, which takes 1 business day to arrive once we receive your approved prescription. Our shipping cut off is 3:30pm EST Monday through Friday, so if we receive your order before then (and have the necessary approvals), we can ship out same day. Please note, we will be closed Thursday, Dec. 25th to observe the holiday.

P
Patricia Khuly

Can this serve a dual purpose as a nebulization cage?

Pawprint Oxygen

Hi Patricia! That's a good question. Our PureVent chamber cannot support nebulizing medications, but if your pet just needs moisture added to the oxygen therapy, you can purchase a humidifier bottle on Amazon to go with our chamber and concentrator. We don't sell them directly, but we do have one we have tested in house here and we can vouch for its effectiveness. If you'd like more information, please reach out to us via email at info@pawprintoxygen.com or give us a call at 855-699-4366 and we can send you the link for the product.
